Logan Killen Interiors Created a Beach-Inspired Oasis in New Orleans

For a New Orleans-based couple looking to build their forever home in the Big Easy, designers Katie Logan Leblanc and Jensen Killen of Logan Killen Interiors took inspiration from a spot that was special to the homeowners.

“Our client grew up spending summers near Alys Beach, Florida,” reveals Killen, and the couple “always dreamed of creating their own beach-inspired oasis when they built their forever home in New Orleans, Louisiana.”

To bring this beachy aesthetic to life, Killen and Logan Leblanc used seaside-inspired colors including white, sand, apricot, and various shades of blue, to “mingle with plaster details” and “evoke a calm sense of space.”

When the designers joined this project, “the basic footprint and exterior had been developed, combining Mediterranean and Southern Louisiana architectural motifs,” Killen notes, adding that this combination “kicked off what would be a unique pairing of forms and materials that would define the rest of the project.”

Additionally, layers of wood tones “create a cozy environment for everyday living.” The result is a true family home that leaves its inhabitants dreaming of days at the beach.

“To keep the kitchen bright and inviting but also layered with warmth, we incorporated plaster detailing, Farrow & Ball’s “Dimpse” on the cabinetry, and a variety of wood and brass tones,” explains Logan Leblanc. “A beautiful calcutta stone is featured as the backsplash, paired with a more forgiving quartz on the countertops.”

Killen adds that from the very beginning of this project, the homeowners knew they wanted to incorporate both counter and banquette seating in the kitchen. Given this wish, the kitchen island was built to accommodate five people, complete with “slipcovered counter stools that added a nice layer or color and pattern to the space.”

“The living room was a real design challenge,” reveals Logan Leblanc, since it’s a square-shaped room that’s open on all sides and features a fireplace wall turned on a 45-degree angle. The homeowner wanted durable seating for family and friends here, including a recliner chair.

“The solution was a selection of cleaned line seating in a restricted color palette of sand, apricot, and chestnut, accented with subtle tones of blue-green that weave throughout the house,” says Logan Leblanc. To bring this neutral-toned living room to life, Killen and Logan Leblanc enlisted a mix of vintage and new decor, including barstools from West Elm and a sofa and recliner chair from Lee Industries.

The minimalist bathroom of this home was meant to have a “spa-like, Mediterranean approach,” says Killen. “To start, we developed a custom marble mosaic floor and anchored the space with a white-oak-and-Carrara-marble double vanity.”

The designers also incorporated light fixtures from l’aviva home and Apparatus Studio in this space.

The owners of this oasis love to cook and entertain, says Logan Leblanc, “so we created a screened-in outdoor kitchen and lounge space, fully equipped with a grill, fryer, sink, and warming drawers.” This includes furnishings from RH and a tile backsplash by Ken Mason Tile.
