Replicas of historic homes are often used for museums, but in in Connecticut’s northwest corner, there’s a residential one — and it’s on the market.
Listed for $1.795 million, the home on 92 Judds Bridge Road in Roxbury looks like a century-old Federal colonial. But the four bedroom, 3,900 square-foot home was built in 2016. It’s a reproduction of the Governor Levi Woodbury House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire — the home of the state’s ninth governor and associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
While the original has been demolished, the Roxbury home maintains “the exact proportions of the original façade” while also reducing it in depth to accommodate the building site, according to the listing.
Inside the home, the listing notes that there are “hand-crafted” details that “borrow design cues from the many preserved sea captains’ mansions of the Piscataqua River region of New Hampshire and Maine, including the completely handmade Piscataqua Staircase with alternating hand-turned balusters, subrail, end panels and scrolls and an open newel post.”
The three floors of living space include a formal living room, dining room, four en-suite bedrooms, a family room and an office, according to the listing; the home’s first level has over 10-foot ceilings, while the second level has 9-foot ceilings and the third has 8-foot ceilings.
The walkout lower level has a half bathroom and high ceilings, the listing notes, which not only gives way to a “potential pool site” and shows the rural setting.
